Chesapeake & Ohio Canal

2014

We took 3 days and biked from downtown DC to the Appalachians along a historic towpath of a 19th century canal next to the Potomac, now a National Park.  We passed parks, falls, Civil War battlefields, and historic small towns.  60 miles a day, 184 mlles total on a dirt/gravel tree-sheltered route.

I used my Brompton folding bike which I checked in its bag for the flight from Seattle.  I biked up the Capital Crescent trail to my meeting in Bethesda, then down to Arlington using that city’s amazing trails to join my sister.  The next morning we biked down to Georgetown to Mile 0.
