Day 52. Westlake

74 miles 978 feet

Biking Fremont east on the protected bike path in the cool morning was close to ideal. Emerging onto rural roads I had a tailwind for the rest of the day. I reached Huron quickly, had a latte and pastry, and saw Lake Erie for the first time. It seems like an ocean because you can't see the other side The difference is you don't hear waves crashing on the shore. The ACA route largely followed the lakeside road which for much of its course had a paint-separated bike late. The lakeside homes seemed to get progressively nicer further east.

I passed a massive, closed. coal power plant at Avon Lake. I made me think of Chernobyl because of its size. It has an interesting history, and was closed with the effort of Dennis Kucinich. The latest news is that it will be imploded. It used massive amounts of coal and water.

I arrived early at the Doubletree Hotel for the night, well positioned to pass through Cleveland and beyond tomorrow.

Today is my 70th birthday and I celebrated with a nice dinner in the hotel, did laundry and repaired my first flat in the worn rear tire.
